An Open Letter to AMC: Renew Rubicon! – TV Over Mind
But I’m not writing this to talk about Mad Men, Breaking Bad, or even The Walking Dead. I’m writing to you to talk about a series that may be struggling just a bit with viewership, but deserves to have just as many viewers as everything else you’ve brought to the small screen. I’m talking about Rubicon, that brilliant little nugget of a show that has begun to make me feel so happy with myself for sticking with it through those slow first episodes.
I’ll admit, my faith was tested. Some episodes passed with minimal action occurring, and I was beginning to get worried that we’d only end up with a minor revelation about the overall conspiracy by the end of the first year. That would have been very disappointing, and thankfully, it didn’t turn out that way. Somewhere, things got really good.

The ratings for this show have been very good, and I see no mention or any type of evidence of the show’s cancellation. If the show did perform badly in ratings, then it would be AMC’s duty to cancel it, because bad ratings equal waste of money.
Hi Matt,
the ratings for Rubicon have actually been on the low side, even for AMC. However, we really don’t know where the line is as far as what they need to make the show profitable. They could be good enough… I guess we’ll see!
Rubicon….I didn’t realize AMC had any series, I learned of it from reading about the new fall lineup. I was hooked after the first episode. I DVR it, don’t know if that hurts the ratings or not, but so much is happening…. I need to rewind to catch it all. I hope Rubicon will be renewed. It has excellent potential for ongoing stories. I, and others I talk to, love it!
This is great story-telling, and very good TV. Viewers have risen to learn to appreciate AMC’s risks in the past, embracing Mad Men and Breaking Bad. These shows appeal to those of us who are interested in something much more than Gaga’s latest meat selection or unreal ‘reality’ show about idiots trying to decide what to wear to the ‘club’ tonight.
Please give Rubicon the time it needs to groom an even larger audience of engaged viewers willing to learn something about the world that takes more than 15 seconds.
Who or where is ‘Emilia’?
Farnham48, the Rubicon River is located in Emilia-Romagna, Italy…
Great show with fantastic actors and compelling writing. Smarter by a mile than anything else that’s been on TV since The West Wing.
I hope it gets renewed!
Awesome series. Cerebral, with perhaps not easily accessible content. But it comes with a great atmosphere and great acting.
AMC Folks: Only reason anyone is watching the Walking Dead is because they saw previews on Rubicon. You have to reconsider and renew the show.
Rubicon is a compelling story, a smart storyline with great acting. The characters are all a bit flawed much like in real life that is what makes this a unique show. I agree with many that it was a bit slow at first but that in itself is a refreshing change from other shows that change directions every 8 seconds.
Rubicon gave AMC its best ratings ever, at least for 14 weeks. AMC do the smart thing and renew Rubicon. I along with countless other viewers did not watch any AMC programming prior to Rubicon, and I am now open to idea of MAD MEN and Breaking Bad. Do not turn us new AMC viewers away now.
Ed,
is this post sarcasm? I can’t tell. I’m sure we all love Rubicon here but the show had very anemic ratings. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a quality show but it apparently didn’t build an audience as AMC hoped.
